Visit Waireinga / Bridal Veil Falls

Beautiful waterfall with short bush walk

Bridal Veil Falls (Waireinga) is a breathtaking 55-metre plunge waterfall that stands as one of the North Island’s most spectacular natural wonders. Located a short, scenic drive from the Raglan township, the falls are encased in a lush amphitheater of native bush and ancient basalt rock. The easy, well-maintained track follows the Pakoka River through a cathedral of ferns and nikau palms, leading you to multiple viewing platforms that offer dizzying perspectives of the water as it thunders into a clear, deep pool below.

WHY VISIT

  • Multiple Perspectives: Four distinct lookouts allow you to see the falls from the dramatic top lip, the misty midpoint, and the serene base.
  • Photographer’s Dream: The contrast of the white “veil” of water against the dark volcanic rock and vibrant green forest is stunning in any light.

What You’ll Find

  • Waireinga Track: A gentle 10-minute walk to the top of the falls, or a 261-step descent for those wanting to reach the bottom pool.
  • Ancient Geology: Impressive basalt columns formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, framing the waterfall’s path.
  • Native Birdlife: Keep an ear out for the song of the Tui and Kererū (New Zealand wood pigeon) echoing through the dense canopy.
