Raglan’s Most Loved Café Since 2011

The Shack sits in one of Raglan’s oldest buildings on Bow Street — a heritage structure built in 1898 that’s been a general store, a barbershop and a mower shop before finding its true calling as the town’s most-loved café. Owners Alix and Justin Thomson took it over in 2011 and have been feeding locals, surfers and visitors ever since.

  • The food is rooted in local produce — the team works closely with Waikato farmers and growers, and the menu shifts seasonally to reflect what’s actually growing nearby. There’s a strong emphasis on vegetarian and vegan options alongside the brunch classics, and a genuine commitment to sustainability that runs through everything from their packaging choices to their supplier relationships.
  • Open 7 days from 8am for breakfast and lunch, The Shack has the kind of loyal following that keeps a place packed on a Tuesday morning. If there’s a queue, it moves — and it’s worth it.

  • Open 7 days, 8am–3pm
