Relax at Raglan skatepark or playground

Where the skate bowl meets the estuary for the ultimate family day out

If you’re looking for the heart of Raglan’s family and youth culture, the Papahua Domain (Te Kopua) is where it’s at. This isn’t just a park; it’s a massive seaside playground that serves as the town’s central meeting point. Whether you’re there to watch skating, let the kids burn off energy, or simply grab some food by the water, the vibe here is pure, laid-back Raglan magic.

WHY VISIT

  • The “Rad” Skate Park: Famous for its deep concrete bowl and artistic graffiti, it’s a spectator sport in itself to watch local rippers fly through the air.
  • Bridge Jumping: The iconic footbridge next to the park is the local “rite of passage”—check the tides and join the kids jumping into the refreshing estuary water.
  • Safe Swimming: Unlike the rugged surf beaches, the Te Kopua beach here offers calm, shallow waters perfect for toddlers and paddleboarding.
  • Local Tip: Slack tide is your best friend. The current under the bridge gets very strong during tide changes. For the safest swimming and jumping, aim for the 30-minute window on either side of high tide when the water is calm and deep.

What You’ll Find

  • Modern Pump Track: A newer addition where kids (and brave adults) on bikes and scooters can practice their flow on a continuous loop of rollers and berms.
  • Multi-Age Play Area: From a giant “space net” and flying fox for the big kids to toddler-safe swings and a wooden surfboard balance trainer.
  • Picnic & BBQ Facilities: Public electric BBQs and plenty of shaded tables
